Rugby Union SA together with the Australian Refugee Association have organised the inaugural Country of Origin 7s tournament on the 2nd of July 2017.
The competition which is the first of its kind in South Australia, is supported and endorsed by the Australian Rugby Union.
The tournament has been organised to celebrate Multiculturalism in Rugby Union in South Australia and to introduce the sport to new and emerging communities. While not everybody has the opportunity to represent their country professionally, the ‘Country of Origin’ rugby tournament gives the South Australian community the chance to play Rugby for their Country of Origin.
The tournament is a non-contact sevens tournament played according to the VIVA sevens rules. Teams from more recent migrant communities, as well as other communities who have do not traditionally play rugby are also encouraged to enter. There will be plenty on show both on and off the field, with Cultural performances food and craft stalls to give everyone a real taste of different cultures in our sport.
We encourage all Nations to wear your National colours/jersey and show off your culture. You can enter more than one team from your Nation. For example, Fiji Blues & Fiji Blacks
Cost $100 per team (which is $10 per player) – Each player will receive a VIVA sevens bucket hat. Minimum 7 players, maximum 10 players per team.
