The 2017 referee round went well with a group of new referees trying their whistles out in the middle! The referee round every year seeks to have knowledgeable spectators, players or members of the community come forward from their clubs and try out referee duties. This allows for the individuals to experience the excitement and fun of our beautiful game from a different perspective.

Each year the ARU involve themselves by making a top referee available to take part in the Rugby Union SA Game of the Round; 2017 was no different as Jordan Way headed to Adelaide to referee the Brighton vs Burnside match on Saturday 1 July. Jordan also made himself available to assist with all of the referees on the day at Brighton, even running as an assistant referee to Rugby Union SA’s new Female Development Officer, Leesa Kenny (pictured). Jordan also availed himself to run a development workshop on Sunday 2 July for the Referee Union, helping to grow all of our local talent.

This year there were also 4 females who participated in the referee round training and appointments; this offers great diversity, much needed in the Referee Union.

Congratulations to all involved with the referee round – Referees, Assistant Referees, those who attended the development workshop and special thanks to Jordan way for all of his efforts over the weekend.
