Recipients' Profiles - 2010
August - Ross Caddey, Adelaide University RUFC
Congratulations to Ross Caddey of Adelaide University RUFC, who is the winner of the Coopers Alehouse Volunteer of the Month in August.
Ross was appointed as the Director of Senior Rugby at Adelaide University RUFC for the 2010 Season and has since then looked after the managers and coaches of the club. He has also filled and run water bottles, assisted with player strapping, ran training sessions, ran pre-season fitness sessions and also helped out in bar when required. Ross even ran the bar when the touch football competition was hosted at the club during summer.
With a job that is a 6 to 7 days a week commitment, Ross has worked hard this year as he also became the 2nd grade coach, whilst assisting 1st XV and 3rd grade. As well as working alongside other club volunteers in the running of the club, Ross is always the first to arrive for training, setting up drills, making sure that the other coaches know what is going on, ringing players, sorting out registrations and he is sometimes the last to leave.
Being committed to duty of care and player safety, this year has been difficult as Ross, together with the other coaches and committee have had to make the decision to withdraw from 3rd grade for season 2010.
This year Ross has updated his coaching accreditation and he has completed his Good Sports certificate.
Ross will be rewarded with an $80 voucher for dinner at the Coopers Alehouse.
July - Marcus Lodge, Port Adelaide RUFC
Congratulations to Marcus Lodge of Port Adelaide RUFC, who is the winner of the Coopers Alehouse Volunteer of the Month in July.
Marcus is the Club President of Port Adelaide RUFC and looks after sponsorship, running of the club facilities (including bar and canteen areas), as well as working alongside other club volunteers regarding the financial side of the clubs affairs.
Marcus is always one of the first people at the club on game days and is the ‘go-to person’ for any and all inquiries about the teams and the club as a whole. Port Adelaide RUFC believes that “it has moved forward over the last few years due to his dedication and drive and all members appreciate his time and friendship”.
Marcus is also the Vice-President of Western Districts Vikings JRUFC and works as hard within that role as he does for Port Adelaide RUFC.
Marcus will be rewarded with an $80 voucher for dinner at the Coopers Alehouse.
June - Sue Thewlis, Old Collegians RUFC
Congratulations to Sue Thewlis of Old Collegians RUFC, who is the winner of the Coopers Alehouse Volunteer of the Month in June.
For years, Sue has done all of the club correspondence, the liaison for all house and grounds, runs the canteen, manages Thursday and Saturday night meals, orders all of the club equipment, food, etc and helps out with finances and the club bar.
Old Collegians RUFC says that "We couldn’t manage without her!"
Sue will be rewarded with an $80 voucher for dinner at the Coopers Alehouse.
May - Sam McCarty, Western Districts Vikings RUFC
Congratulations to Sam McCarty of Western Districts Vikings RUFC, who is the winner of the Coopers Alehouse Volunteer of the Month in May.
This year, Sam has taken over the role of Club Secretary from Judy Duff.
Sam spends up to three hours a day or night sorting out everything - registrations, fundraising, the Adelaide Sevens, coaches doing their Smart Rugby, keeping in touch with Kooga on our new uniforms, collecting fees, sorting out numbers for the Elizabeth Sevens and the 10-a-side Competition and ensuring the kids are all registered for playing on these days and keeping in touch with SARU directly.
Sam is always one of the first to arrive at training nights to ensure that everything is set up and that everyone on the committee and coaches know what is going on.
Vikings RUFC believes that "without Sam’s effort, the club would be in trouble".
Sam will be rewarded with an $80 voucher for dinner at the Coopers Alehouse.
April - Gai Williams, Southern Suburbs RUFC
Congratulations to Gai Williams of Southern Suburbs RUFC, who is the winner of the Coopers Alehouse Volunteer of the Month in April.
Over the years, Gai has been team manager of junior state teams, volunteered at the Adelaide Sevens on several occasions, worked in the club’s canteen and bar and volunteered to be team manager for both junior and senior club teams. This season, Gai is heavily involved in the running of Southern Suburbs RUFC and in 2010, she is the Club Registrar, Records Officer, U16 Team Manager, Assistant Senior Teams Manager and is on the Club Executive Committee.
Gai is at the club every Tuesday and Thursday making sure the water bottles are filled, coaches have full access to training equipment, players get ice when needed, registration forms are completed, collecting players fees, making telephone calls to players, liaising with parents and spouses of players and ensuring that the training lights are turned on & off. She spends a considerable amount of time working the computer at home in order to carry out her volunteer work to the best of her ability.
Southern Suburbs believes that the club “would not run as smoothly as it has for the last couple of years without Gai’s dedication and attention to detail.”
Gai will be rewarded with an $80 voucher for dinner at the Coopers Alehouse.
